The Duval County School Board is considering a shift to an abstinence-based sexual health curriculum along with an opt-in process that would severely limit the information students receive about critical topics like contraception, HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, testing, and treatment, consent, and healthy relationships.

This move would drastically reduce students’ access to life-saving, medically accurate information, leaving them unprepared to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. Abstinence-based approaches have been proven ineffective, putting our youth at greater risk for unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, and unhealthy relationships.
